What Is Nechama?
Nobody should ever suffer alone — אף אחד לא צריך לסבול לבד.

Nechama is an Israeli nonprofit organization that has been providing English-language grief counseling since 1999. Our name means “comfort” in Hebrew, reflecting the care and support we offer people living with loss. Our dedicated volunteer counselors undergo extensive training and ongoing professional supervision, offering compassionate, confidential support to teens, men and women navigating bereavement and other significant forms of loss. Wherever possible, counselors meet clients in the comfort of their own homes, providing a safe, non-judgmental space to talk openly and be accompanied through grief at their own pace. Counseling is offered at a nominal cost, helping ensure that meaningful grief support remains accessible to those who need it.

Why grief counseling?

Many people do not realize what grief counseling can offer. They may feel that loss is something they simply have to endure, that talking to family and friends should be enough, or that seeking support is only necessary when they can no longer cope. Yet grief deserves its own attention. It can bring feelings and questions that are difficult to share, even with those closest to you. Grief counseling offers support specifically focused on the experience of loss. Its purpose is to accompany you through the grieving process: to help you explore what your loss means to you, understand what you are feeling, and adjust to life as it is now. You do not have to be in crisis to benefit. At Nechama, our trained, supervised counselors provide a confidential space where you can speak freely, in English, without worrying about burdening someone you love. There is room to revisit memories, voice difficult feelings, or put words to something you have not yet been able to explain. We walk alongside you as you find your way towards living with your grief.
